Matt Rhule, Nebraska’s new football coach, fired two key members of the Nebraska staff ahead of his Monday press conference.
Head strength coach Zach Duval and director of performance nutrition Dave Ellis were both relieved of their duties at NU, a source within the athletics department confirmed Monday night. Both biographies had already been removed from the Huskers.com website.
Duval, whose salary was $425,000, arrived with former Husker head coach Scott Frost, while Ellis returned to Nebraska in the summer of 2018 for a hefty $250,000-a-year price tag. While Ellis worked with more than just the football team, he provided special leadership within that program.
Corey Campbell, who worked with Rhule at Baylor and with the Carolina Panthers, is widely anticipated as NOW’s new strength and conditioning coach. It is not clear who could replace Ellis.
