Prepare to level up Universal Studios Hollywood in 2023 with the opening of Super Nintendo World on February 17. The video game-inspired country finally makes its debut in the United States after the opening of the first Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan in 2021, and prior to the release of The Super Mario Bros. movie.

The West Ceast version includes immersive, state-of-the-art experiences like the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge attraction and interactive gameplay in the Mushroom Kingdom, featuring a wearable Power-Up Band that will bring iconic game moments to life in the real world.

Get the official first look at the country in this preview from Universal!

We feel like racing to the finish and grabbing a bite to eat at the Toadstool Cafe, filled with themed eateries that will hopefully be as adorable as Japan’s offerings, though we have questions about the mushroom crime staple, the Super Mushroom Soup. Then, naturally, there is shopping in the 1-UP Factory store full of plush, wearable casual cosplay, and retro Nintendo merchandise.

Here are the official descriptions of what to expect and when Super Nintendo World opens:

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge: This all new, technologically Advanced Ride, inspired by the hit video game series Mario Kart, will seamlessly fuse advanced augmented reality (AR) with projection mapping technology and actual set pieces along a moving ride course. Against a multi-sensory backdrop of colour, sound, and movement, guests will be seated in four-seat stadium-style vehicles as they navigate familiar courses through the creative use and integration of head-mounted AR glasses. This unique feature is a major point of distinction that sets this ride apart from other theme parks.

The premise of “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” is simple yet equally inspiring and challenging, appealing to guests of all ages, regardless of their gaming experience. As part of Team Mario, guests navigate underwater courses and courses in the clouds to compete for the Golden Cup, collecting coins to defeat and win Team Bowser. “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” raises the stakes for guests as an intriguing and repeatable ride with multiple outcomes.

Set up beanstalk: Located in the heart of the country, this towering landmark also serves as the entry queue for “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge”.

Bowser’s Castle: Adorned with a breathtaking statue of a large and powerful Bowser, this structure serves as a major centerpiece of the country, home to Super Nintendo World‘s signature ride, “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.” As guests navigate the winding corridors and make their way through the hall of medallions and trophies of the foreboding castle to the “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” ride, they learn about Bowser’s calculated plans to defeat Team Mario for the coveted Golden Cup .

Boot Tape: These wearable, state-of-the-art wristbands sync with Universal Studios Hollywood’s free downloadable app to elevate the in-country guest experience and enhance its many interactive elements. These include, but are not limited to, tracking individual and team scores, collecting digital coins, and getting keys after winning challenges around the country. Power-Up Bands also invite guests for extra special interactions with Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach. They come in six character-themed design options and can be purchased both in-country and at Super Nintendo World shops in the theme park and on CityWalk.

Interactive Gameplay: In the land, guests are fully immersed in an immersive world of real-life gameplay, including punching blocks to collect digital coins and a variety of interactives. They will discover a new dimension of Super Nintendo World through the interactive binoculars using augmented reality technology placed in the country. Guests can beat the four Key Challenges and collect keys from Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Piranha Plant, and Thwomp interactive activities to eventually access the culminating boss fight with Bowser Jr. This energetic, familiar, and fun interactive games will further enhance the whole land kinetic experience and immerse guests in the unique world of Super Mario.

Mushroom Cafe: Toadstool Cafe, the country’s signature restaurant, serves a gourmet menu perfected by Chef Toad, where he will greet guests upon entry. Menu items prepared fresh daily include Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots, Super Mushroom Soup, Piranha Plant Caprese, Mario Bacon Cheeseburger, Luigi Pesto Chicken Burger, Question Block Tiramisu, and Princess Peach Cupcake.
