The main event of this fight night takes place in the middleweight division, with Jared Cannonier trying to recover from his loss to then-champion Israel Adesanya by knocking out Sean Strickland, while trying to recover from his own loss to the now-champion , Alex Pereira.

Jared Cannonier vs. Sean Strickland

Round 1

They start out feeling neither out of process nor excited to participate. Strickland paws with his jab. Cannonier starts off with a few volleys, but nothing lands. Strickland tries to counter. Stricklnad is figuring out the distance and finds a home for his punch while dodging Cannonier’s attacks. Strickland catches a kick from Cannonier and flips him onto his back. Cannonier immediately gets back up, but Strickland keeps his back to the cage and lands a series of short shots before Cannonier escapes. Gunner sneaks up, lands a heavy low kick. Strickland dodges a heavy shot. Gunner looking for leg kicks and some land. Good round, but Strickland the busier fighter. Strickland 10-9

Round 2

Cannonier lands the first good shot to open the round. Strickland trips Cannonier with a caught kick, but doesn’t continue the takedown. Strickland finds his jab again. Gunner looking for heavy shots and Strickland dodges most of them, the others don’t land clean. Gunner looking for leg kicks again. Strickland struggles to find the jab due to Cannonier’s volume. Cannonier slows down and Strickland finds a home for some punches. Strickland rushes to Cannonier and lands something heavy. Unphased, Cannonier goes right back to stalking Strickland. Cannonier gets a good right to end the round. Close circle. Gunner 10-9

Round 3

Strickland plays matador again. Cannonier lands a leg kick. Strickland builds momentum and increases volume. He slows down and Cannonier lands a body kick. Gunner throws a lot of big shots that are mostly missing. Strickland doesn’t throw with much power, but they find their home. Cannonier finally lands a big combo, but Strickland is not phased. Cannonier lands another big right. Strickland begins to put some power into his shots, but Cannonier blocks most of them. Strickland lands a low kick and checks one from Cannonier. Strickland lands several punches to the head and then dodges several punches from Cannonier. Cannonier lands a left to end the round. Another close round. Strickland 10-9

Round 4

The round begins with them finding their range before Cannonier begins an aggressive pursuit. Nothing lands when Strickland dodges. They have a few even exchanges before Strickland starts landing several consecutive unanswered exchanges. Cannonier appears to have been injured by one of the punches. Strickland lands with damn near every punch to the head. Cannonier lands a heavy kick and appears to wake himself up. Cannonier is back on the offensive, but his attack now only comes in waves. Strickland reads this and attacks with the jab between bursts. Strickland starts following behind his jab. Cannonier backs Strickland and forces Strickland to circle out. Cannonier lands heavy right, but Strickland smiles as he swerves again. Strickland 10-9

Round 5

Strickland paws with the jab. Cannonier rushes, but Strickland dodges again. Gunner looking for straight punches. Strickland counters, briefly tripping Cannonier. Gunner searches for hooks again, but doesn’t come close to landing. Strickland lands peppery shots. Cannonier lands a big one, but Strickland isn’t phased. Big right counter from Strickland followed by a sound combo from Cannonier. Cannonier sniffs and Strickland counters with a big combo. Cannonier lands a heavy shot and Strickland’s nose bleeds. Gunner sniffs a spinning fist. Strickland backs Cannonier up with several one-twos. Strickland finds his groove. Cannonier lands a big right, follows with a big combo. Strickalnd fires back with a combo and several kicks. Another close round. Strickland 10-9.
