World Cup highlights: Saudi Arabia stuns Argentina, Messi in historic upset

Date:

The FIFA World Cup 2022 continued on Tuesday Argentina be amazed by Saudi Arabia, 2-1, a 36-game unbeaten run, the second longest streak in the history of international men’s football. Argentina would have equaled Italy’s record of 37 matches with a win or a draw.

Saudi Arabia STUNS Argentina | Full match highlights

This is Argentina’s first defeat in a World Cup opener since 1990, a 1–0 loss to Cameroon. For perspective, Argentina has appeared in every World Cup in that period. Ironically, Argentina made it to the final in 1990, but lost to Germany.

Argentina, who went into the opener with the third-smallest chance of winning the entire World Cup, now face an uphill battle to move out of Group C with massive games against Mexico and Poland looming over the next few days.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, is the first team of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to beat Argentina in a World Cup match. It is Saudi Arabia’s fourth ever victory in the World Cup, improving their all-time record to 4-11-2 (WLD).

You can watch every game of the tournament on the FOX Sports family of networks – the official English-language broadcast partner of the tournament in the US – and the FOX Sports app and FOXSports.com. You can also stream full match replays for free on Tubi.

Here are the top plays of the action in Tuesday’s group stage.
