Yellowstone Recap: Season 5, Episode 6 — [Spoiler] Dies

Sunday Yellowstone marked the last ride for an experienced cowboy. But John refused to be sad about it, considering that, as he put it, “I couldn’t have imagined a better death if you paid me.” Which of the fighters didn’t come home from the shooting range? Read on and discover…

“Did anyone remember to pack vodka?” | Early on in “Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and You”, Rainwater was warned about POTUS giving a surprise speech at the reservation. The goal, Angela was only too happy to explain to her nemesis, was for him to support the chairman’s young rival Martin for his job. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Monica championed the way of life of both Beth and the Duttons all the way to Summer. “Everywhere I go, I get lectures here,” the ex-convict sighed. And still no tofu steak in sight.

Out on the trail, everyone was having a good time, even Beth, whom Rip snuck off with to show her the secret meadow he’d once intended to be the site of their wedding. Although she was really moved by both the beauty of the place and the gesture, she had no interest in chilling with her husband. “F—k your sunset, baby,” she said as she began to take off her top. “You watch me.” When it got dark, John marveled at how wonderful a day it had been. “If it wasn’t perfect,” agreed old friend Emmett, “it was damn close.”

It was ok though. “He just died on the road, like every cowboy dreams of,” John remarked. Still, he had to hurry back to the ranch or Emmett’s wife would see the herd come back without him. Once there, the camera crew that Clara had invited to the surf saw John break the news to the tearful widow. As the next party got underway, the jealous streaks of both Summer and Lynelle came to the fore, with the Senator remarking to John what a strange coincidence it was that “there are never ugly women in bad places around you.”

While all this was going on, Sarah kept playing Jamie like a fiddle, stroking his, ahem, ego and suggesting that her ulterior motive for [bleeping] he had become to have him elected governor so he could give Market Equities its airport back. He was all in, so to speak, but when he watched his father comfort Emmett’s widow on the evening news, he admitted that John was “hard to beat in a fair fight.” Sarah agreed. So “I don’t think we can let him come to the fight, Jamie.”

Yuck. What exactly did she mean by That? Read what interpreter Dawn Olivieri has to say on this subject here.
