Kari Lake election – latest: Republican ‘100% confident of victory’ even as Katie Hobbs widens lead in Arizona governor race

Kari Lake falsely claims rival Katie Dobbs never took the lead in the race in Arizona

Kari Lake, the Republican Arizona gubernatorial nominee, said she is “confident” about her victory, despite falling slightly behind with less than 20 percent of the vote yet to be counted.

“I’m going to win 100 percent. I have absolutely 100 percent confidence that I will be the next governor of Arizona,” Ms. Lake told Fox News.

“I think the Republican Party should continue with the ‘America First’ policy as we are with solutions, common sense solutions,” she added.

Her challenger Katie Hobbs, the Democratic Secretary of State, led by more than 26,000 votes after midnight Thursday.

In a series of interviews with right-wing media yesterday, Ms. Lake called election officials “imbeciles.”

“We’re going to win this, and they can’t help it,” she told The Charlie Kirk Show podcast.

In a tweet, Ms. Hobbs replied: “This election is determined by the voters, not the volume at which an unhinged former television reporter can scream conspiracy theories.”

‘Hold on Arizona’

Katie Hobbs has urged her supporters to “stay firm” as the votes are counted in Maricopa County.

In stark contrast to her opponent Kari Lake, the incumbent Secretary of State in Arizona expressed confidence in election officials in a tweet Wednesday evening.

“Hold on in Arizona – and let’s let our local election officials do their job, without fear or interference.”

Kari Lake ‘sure’ of victory

Kari Lake, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Arizona who is trailing by less than 20 percent of the remaining ballots, said she is “confident” about her victory.

“I’m going to win 100 percent. I have absolutely 100 percent confidence that I will be the next governor of Arizona,” Ms. Lake told Fox News.

“I think the Republican Party should continue with the ‘America First’ policy as we are with solutions, common sense solutions,” she said.

The Maga star added that she hopes Donald Trump will return to the White House in 2024. “I think he will run. And if he does, I think he will win,” she said.

“We need a President Trump to go in and repair all the damage Joe Biden has done to this country. And I support President Trump.”

Where Democrats Get It Right – And Where They Get It All Wrong?

The Independent’s Washington chief correspondent Eric Garcia has a new post-mortem mid-term review examining Democrats’ successes, missed opportunities and outright failures.

“The Good” was Democrats’ ability to win over suburban and Latino voters, and a strong performance in New England.

These were tempered by missed opportunities in Ohio and North Carolina.

While they are in New York and Wisconsin, the Democrats will make crucial mistakes.

Arizona governor’s race may go to court

Kari Lake cast doubt on the integrity of the election during her campaign and refused to confirm that she would accept the results of the governor’s race.

And with results on the cutting edge with 70 percent of the vote counted, her allies are already looking at a lawsuit.

An anonymous member of Ms. Lake’s team said: Time magazine that a lawsuit could focus on “counting the ballots and overseeing the counting”.

Katie Hobbs’ campaign manager told Time in a statement that they always knew the race would be tight.

“Every Arizona deserves to have their voices counted and their voices heard, and in the coming days we will continue to closely monitor these results to make sure that happens.”

Same-day voting results will probably not be known until Monday.

Arizona election results expected next week

Katie Hobbs holds onto a narrow lead against Kari Lake in the race for Arizona governor on Thursday, as officials in Maricopa County raised issues with ballot counting.

Maricopa County’s top election official, Bill Gates, told CNN on Thursday that the remaining votes in the county probably won’t be counted until next week.

“I think we will see the lion’s share end early next week.”

On Wednesday evening, the polling station for Maricopa County, the largest county in the state, spoke about what happened when polling stations ran out of paper ballots.

Mr Gates and Vice-Chairman Clint Hickman said the matter would be investigated.

“The printer settings for the Ballot-On-Demand printers in the voting centers were the same as we used in the August Primary.

“The paper was the same thickness. Prior to the General Elections, the Elections Department has tested and tested hundreds of ballot papers without any problems,” they said.

‘We are looking at a possible crisis’

AZCentral, one of Arizona’s largest news sites warns of a “potential crisis” if Kari Lake loses the state governor’s race.

In an editorial, columnist Phil Boas writes that delays in vote counting caused by machine failures have further eroded confidence in the electoral process among Republican voters.

“There was no conspiracy to manipulate the printers or count votes at a snail’s pace in Arizona, but when this is over, we need to overhaul our electoral system,” he writes.

“Even if that doesn’t affect the results, Republican voters are outraged.

“The nerves were already on edge as it is always Election Day, but the slump set a torch on them.

“Add to that Kari Lake’s foolish statements that she’s already won and we’re looking at a potential crisis: If she loses, her voters will be red-hot.”

The slow nature of vote counting increases mistrust and needs to be reviewed, he added.

“All over Arizona and the nation and even in Europe people are wondering what’s wrong with Maricopa County?”
